Yanacocha is a spectacular site and reserve located in the mountains west side of Quito at about one and a half hours drive from the city center; the habitat is represented by montane cloud forest and elfin forest on the lower part from 3,000mts to 3.400 mts.) and Paramo & Polylepis on the upper part from 3,500 mts. to 4,000 mts.). This trip is an amazing journey in some of the most remote areas of northwest Ecuador. The forests we will visit are the last remainings of pristine and protected woods from the Choco Bioregion. ITINERARY:
DAY 1.- Leave Quito at 06:00h in order to visit some of the valleys that are located in between Quito and Antisana for Tropical Mocking Bird, Rusty Flowerpiercer, Southern Yellow Grossbeack and others, The park opens at 07:00 when we´ll start looking for some of the specialties of the area like Andean Condors, Carunculated Caracara, Black-faced Ibis, Silvery Grebe and many others. In the afternoon we´ll visit the hights of Papallacta for the very cryptic but still Spectacular Rufous-bellied Seed Snipe.
DAY 2.- After a very good rest at “Papallacta Hot Springs”, We´ll star early in the morning birding the forest inside Cayambe Coca National Park, this is an spectacular pristine forest that hosts many forest birds of the high Andes like Giant Conebill, Blue-backed Conebill, Black-backed Bush Tanager, Red-rumped Bush Tyrant and many others.
